FROM MY LIPS

Lips are highly decorated members of the human form. Lip stick, lip gloss, lip balm, piercings and even lip tattoos highlight the human aesthetic fascination with lips. The variations of lips are just as interesting as the faces they appear upon: Big, Small, Thin, Plump, Injected and Stretched and everything in between. The bigger the lips, the more responsibility one has to carry words with weight. The smaller the lips, the more responsibility one has to speak up and speak loudly, so the world can hear the power from your lips.

This show celebrates individuality, freedom, and the oneness found in diversity. The “preachiness” of From My Lips seeks to raise the awareness and consciousness to be mindful of the words we speak, the words we sign, the words we write, the words we symbolize, the words we scribble, etc.

In America, we enjoy the constitutional protection of Freedom of Speech without any guardrails, filters, or any defined examples. However, if we could govern our speech to free those who are bound, those who are oppressed, those who are forgotten, those who are segregated, those who are marginalized, and those who have no voice, our lips will be seen as portals that bring liberation.

The works surrounded by For My Lips are personal to the artist, who has had good and bad dealings regarding the size of his lips. He has invoked those experiences on canvas and hopes the viewer, collector, and critic will be inspired to see beyond the physical and see the spirit of every human.
